Founded in 1989 by Jay Price and Andy MacKay, AMX established itself as a leading provider of consulting
services for the implementation of J.D.Edwards’ enterprise resource planning software (ERP). Having implemented
this software several times as employees, Price and MacKay were already ERP experts when they founded AMX. AMX
quickly grew and became the largest dedicated J.D.Edwards partner practice in North America.
During the latter part of the 1990’s, AMX became the primary J.D.Edwards partner for the public services
industry, including local government, utilities, transportation authorities, health care, education, and
nonprofit organizations. In 2000, J.D.Edwards revamped their target market strategy and determined to exclude
several industries including private utilities and municipalities. Due to our experience in these areas, AMX
became the logical successor.
In March 2000, AMX acquired from J.D.Edwards a utility billing solution (UCIS) for customers in the electric,
gas and water markets. J.D. Edwards had already invested more than $8 million in product development and
thousands of hours establishing relationships with key industry analysts and customer focus groups. The result
of this investment was a very robust CIS system which was proprietary to the IBM AS/400 platform and J.D.Edwards’
core ERP system.
Along with the intellectual property of this utility billing and CIS system, AMX inherited a $200,000 annual
maintenance stream and 9 active customers. UCIS was renamed and trademarked AMX UTILIGY. AMX then began to
develop UTILIGY 2.0, an open systems version and the next generation of CIS solutions. AMX continues to support
the original UTILIGY customers and has now sold UTILIGY 2.0 to an additional 6 clients around the world. AMX
now serves a total of 15 domestic and international UTILIGY customers in a variety of utility markets.
AMX continues to support a rich ERP install base and sells to new customers both within and outside the utility
industry. With notable non-utility clients such as Lexmark, Amgen, Gateway, and American Heart Association,
AMX will continue its strategy of diversification across many industries by providing IT project based services.
AMX is now in development of UTILGY 3.0, a completely JAVA-based architecture available to its first Beta
customer in 2006.
In April of 2004, AMX became a designated PeopleSoft® Global Alliance Partner. This level of partnership is
very exclusive with only six of the over two hundred former J.D. Edwards partners achieving this distinguished
designation. As a Global Alliance Partner, AMX was responsible for co-marketing the PeopleSoft Enterprise and
EnterpriseOne Solutions. Partners at this level were the adjunct services arm for PeopleSoft Sales and Services
organizations.
December 2004 brought yet another change to AMX and the ERP industry. Oracle has made a successful bid for
PeopleSoft, creating the largest ERP provider in North America and the second largest in the world. AMX was
courted by Oracle and was in the partnership process before the takeover, and was named a Certified Partner
immediately after the acquisition. AMX was the first former J.D. Edwards/PeopleSoft partner to be welcomed by
Oracle.
In 2004, AMX also announced the creation of its On Demand Services group, a division that meets the needs of
our partners and clients with complete on-shore design and development.
